Pastor George grew up in a Christian home along the coast of Maine. His mom and dad served the church for 25 years. It was a loving church family to be discipled in. Pastor George came to the Lord at an early age. In his early teens, he was baptized and joined the church.
Pastor George attended Liberty University, where in addition to earning a B.S. in Political Science/Philosophy, he met his wife, Michelle. It has been a great joy for him to serve the Lord here at Hope Community for over 20 years. Pastor George has also earned a M.A. in Religion, M.Div, and is a D.Min candidate at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.
Pastor George enjoys downhill skiing, water skiing, jogging, and swimming. He also likes watching movies with his family, traveling, reading, and being a professional student and a life-long learner.
Nancy Herlein has been a lifelong member of Hope.
Nancy has earned an Executive Secretary certificate at Macomb Community College. She has enjoyed serving as church secretary for over 20 years. Prior to that, she worked for the State of Michigan for 14 years.
Some of Nancy’s hobbies include playing piano and organ, baking and cooking, doing handwork and traveling. Nancy also enjoys shopping and loves looking for bargains.
Nancy has been married to her husband, Paul, for 30 years. They have two children, David and Julia.
Director of Technology
David Herlein grew up in Sterling Heights, Michigan and has been attending Hope Community Baptist Church for his entire life. David has been working as Hope's Director of Technology since 2014, and had been a volunteer at Hope for many years before - doing technology, media and graphics, photography, and other odd jobs.
David married his wife, Sara in 2017 and they now live in Warren with their dog, Harvey.
When he is not working at Hope, he works as an IT consultant and a freelance photographer.
Al Sonnenberg has been a member at Hope since 1959 and has served in volunteer roles such as trustee, deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member. A proud grandfather of 7, Al now serves Hope by overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the church property and facilities. He also provides his vast artistic skills to aid us by developing sets and visual backdrops for holiday programs, Vacation Bible School, and worship services.
Al has studied at the Center for Creative Studies, Macomb Community College, and the University of Minnesota. Before working at Hope, Al spent over 30 years in visual merchandising and store planning for Hudson Department Store, Dayton Hudson Jewelers, and Crowley’s Department Store.
In his spare time, Al enjoys drawing, painting, and carving. He resides with his wife, Linda, in Shelby Township.
